Hello, I'm Nathan.
I'm in college studying public relations at a 4-year university, and I find myself writing a lot in my free time. I love making YouTube videos, but unfortunately the videos I write are rarely ever given the chance to actually become a video. That's why I'm starting this blog- I can write freely without worrying about being entertaining or on topic in the ways that I feel the need to whenever I'm filming and editing a video.
Why a blog?
Aren't we all tired of Substack and Medium? Does everyone need a podcast? I want to have ownership of my blog in ways that Medium and Substack do not allow. Podcasts are long, not to just listen through but to take notes on and cite, too. With this being a text-based blog, I'm hoping that my issues with past attempts at things like this won't rear their ugly heads again.
Interests
I'm interested in so much that I'm just going to list them.
- Movies and TV shows
- Music of almost any kind
- Reading nonfiction books
- Reading romance books, gay or straight
- Video essays
- The U.S. Supreme Court
- Behind the scenes of movies and TV (Captain Disillusion is to blame!)
- Practical philosophy
- Communication
- Feminism
- Politics
Biases
Even though many parts about me and my beliefs may be apparent throughout my writing (once I actually start to publish), I wanted to just state them here so there's no confusion.
I am a white, gay man living in a blue state from a (recently) upper-middle class family. I am afforded many privileges in life that are not given to other people who deserve the same. While I have and always will do my best to take my biases and privilege into account, I cannot promise that I will always be perfect at it. No one is perfect, and the whole thing about privilege and biases is that they can, at times, be hard to spot when we think we're acting objectively.
All I ask is for some grace if I get things wrong. Once I become aware that an idea that I have written in favor of is wrong (or I have since changed my mind), I will update that post with corrected information, or something along the lines of "I no longer totally agree with this but I wanna keep it up for transparency sake." If something I have written was harmful, that is when I will apologize and take it down.
Thank you for reading, and welcome to my blog!
I will never publish anything generated by AI onto my blog.
